New York, New York! !

Day 11, Thursday 10th.

We are all awake early, eager for the next destination that beckons. Stewart seeks out his early morning coffee and this time returns with tales of the  chelsea mummies and their children all on scooters, (the non motorised type), calling in for breakfast on their way to school. He also discovers Partridges, grocer to her majesty and this is where he picks up 'The Times' for his early morning catch up with the news.
Our 'Place like Home' checkout lady, Judy arrives and shortly after Allan the minicab driver in your average sedan. With true Londoner accent he makes abusive calls to the companies manager re the lack of info he was given regarding our luggage, but all is not lost as the manager turns up with a seven seater and we all pile in, including the two wheelchairs.
We leave one wheelchair with the hire company at the airport and the other with AA for Emirates to dispose off. Now we are wheel free at least until the American Airline lady arrives. We wheely into the AA business class lounge and after some light and tasty refreshments we are the first on board the plane. No, it is not the A 380 but never the less we do have reasonably attentive airline staff and the food is surprisingly good. The flight is non eventful and we land at JFK on time.  Wheeled off the plane once more we think we have landed in 'wheely land' as the priority queue is two deep and at least six in front of us, with people in wheelchairs. We are through the formalities in 15 mins, amazing in fact and our suitcases are waiting for us - only thing missing is the limo to meet us.
We eventually meet up and our delightful black american driver entertains us all the way to big apple. We are thankful that he relocates the Payer to the correct seat, after she initially tries to sit behind the wheel on the drivers side - just habit I guess, but given it is peak hour in New York the Pusher and Planner are somewhat relieved. Albert springs to mind at one stage when the drivers mobile rings and plays steam train whistles - we are all impressed. We pass by the millionare 'sock seller' in Queens before crossing the Queensboro bridge onto the island of Manhatten.
The Affinia 50 is just around the corner and by 6.30pm we are entrenched in our corner suite on the 12th floor with views over 3rd ave and the infamous Essebagel shop off which the Planner is so fond. Buzzing with excitement and eager to explore it is stil daylight so the Planner leads the party onto the streets for a walk (the payer is in our hired NYC wheelchair) to get our bearings. In no time at all we are on 5th Ave and after a look in few shop windows we decide to gather our breakfast needs at the local food mart on 2nd Ave and head home to bed. Let the New York adventure begin.
