A farewell cruise to the Statue of Liberty.

Day 19, Thursday 18th May.
How does she do it! The Planner has excelled again with yet another picture perfect New York day, so after loading our cases into storage we checked out of our hotel and caught a yellow cab to Pier 53 to board our boat for an hour long cruise on the Hudson River. Essentially we headed downtown and out to the famous statue of Liberty but along the way we passed the Freedom tower and world  trade centre site as well as the homes/apartments of numerous movie stars. It was a glorious day so the New York skyline glistened as evidenced in the photos. And back to the hotel to collect our bags and then pick up the Lincoln town car that was to deliver us to JFK and our flight to Paris.
We were flying American Airlines and based on our Heathrow experience, the Pusher figured he could have a significant meal prior to boarding and thus chill and relax -wrong.   This was American airlines USA so the experience was somewhat different. For starters the sidewalk checkin guy literally asked for a tip - we were very relieved to see our bags on the carousel in Paris- then Grannie was frisked from head to toe twice, and finally to add insult to injury when we eventually got to the lounge we had to pay for any food we wanted. Yes we were still travelling the AA equivilant of business class so this was indeed an insult. And whats more we only had $20US to our name so we were reluctant to eat alot as it just didnt seem worth pulling out the credit card for more of the same ie very average food. The spanish bar girl kept us sane and amused so we tipped her our last $2 and happily boarded the plane which didn't have spare seat in sight.
Some of us drank everything in sight and drifted into a sleepy stupor whilst others observed the average cabin service and limited attention to detail, watching movies on the complimentaty Samsung tablet 10.1. It was only a 7hr flight so by the time they has dished up dinner it was time for the essential breakfast even if it was 4am Paris time .
