The rain finally arrives!

Day 22, Monday 21st May.
Well the promised rain finally eventuated today and we got drenched. Decided more retail browsing was in order so we ordered a cab and ran to the corner to load Grannie in the  back seat and the wheelchair in the boot. Parking our one way street is limited so the cab driver had to park diagnally across the corner pedestrian crossing. We head to Printemps anther of the Grande Magasins in L'opera district of Paris. Coffee first and another delicious pastry to share and then more browsing of more exclusive, expensive (read chained up ) designer clothes and not one purchase. We cross the road in the rain and investigate a couple of other smaller stores but prices are still prohibitive so we negotiate our way round some building construction, yes still inthe pouring rain and down a little laneway to the Fragonard Perfume shop, so the Pusher can purchase more of her favorite perfume that she originally discovered on her last trip to Grasse (also in the pouring rain I might add) some 3years ago.
We grabbed another cab and decided to stop off at Monoprix where the Planner had previously discovered cheaper clothing and  knick knacs. Out of the cab again, assemble the folding wheelchair and still the rain pours down. Cross the road only to discover that that particular store is just a supermarket. The Planner is not impressed and the Payer thinks she would like to go to one more store but enough is enough so instead we seek one final taxi still in the pouring rain and head for home and a well earn't g& t. We have take out dinner and then sit monitoring the web page of incoming flights from Nice in anticipation of the Pushers return from The Cannes Film Festival. He finally arrives at 11.30pm and we are held spellbound as he regales us with stories of his brush with fame. You see he managed to get a ticket to see the premiere of an Australian film, Saphires, and he discovered the dress code was black tie. He duly brought himself a black bow tie but being a boy from the bush was not aware that a formal black tie dress code also involved a white shirt. And he wore his lovely blue shirt. Arriving at the appointed time and place he, along with two other incorrectly attired french men were refused access.  After 20 mins he was almost about to give up when the french men tested the security one final time and was sucessful. Stewart duly walked up the red carpet of the Palais theatre in Cannes as the hopefuls behind the mesh fences clicked flashes madly. Many of the beautiful people  who had all purchased the right to be part of the Festival, were ibdeed photographing themselves on the red carpet but the Pusher did not feel the need to  stoop so low. Instead he just enjoyed the moment. After the 20min standing ovation before the film began! he also thoroughly enjoyed the film and also participated in the 30 min standing ovation following the film.
So it was a late night at 43 Rue Vaneau and we all slept like babies.
