Day 15, Monday 14th May.
The day dawned a bit overcast so we moved slowly as there was no hurry to capture the sunshine, after all we had had our fair share of brilliant Spring weather. The planner decided it was time to induldge in an ess e bagel experience so she nipped across the road and returned with a sesame bagel, cream cheese and lox mmmmmmmmm delicious. Stewart headed off to the Guggenheim for another art experience and Grannie and I did a few household chores before wheeling along 3rd Ave to Bloomingdales. 'Just looking ' was our catchphrase as most things were well beyond our budget. It was not long before we received a txt from the Artist - ' Gug is mostly closed for new installation work , see you for lunch at the Neue gallery' , so Grannie and I departed Bloomingdales and hailed a cab to head up town to 85th St to meet the Pusher. An interesting taxi ride as Obama was in town so two or three of the major thoroughfares were completely devoid of any parked cars and barricaded off to the public with a huge police presence everywhere.
We met the Pusher at the Neue Gallery, where he had just joined the queue fot lunch at Cafe Sabarsky. This is a delightful little Austrian style cafe in stunning surroundings on the edge of Central Park which Elizabeth Steiner had first introduced Penny and Roger to some 4 years ago. We dined on german sausages and sauerkraut and delicious hot strong coffee, something not often found in NYC.
After sending the payer out via the tradesmans entrance, ie the goods lift in the kitchen, we jumped into another yellow cab, an experience that Grannie likens to being in an American sitcom, and headed for Macey's sans sale, to get Grannies watch strap fitted. We meandered for a while and then crossed the road to H & M and the Old Navy Store but luckily did not indulge as the suiltcases are begining to bulge.
A stroll home past the Roosevelt Hotel and Grand Central and then after G& T's we wheeled across the road to a mexican restaurant for margaritas and taco with beautiful refried beans. Stewart decided to try the cactus juice cocktail, which got instant approval and so he had another! Luckily for the payer it was only a short wheely ride across the road back to our hotel.
